On Tuesday, May 2nd the Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2023 (AHB23) was passed by the Ugandan Parliament for the second time. If signed into law by President Museveni, the bill would further legalize discrimination against the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) community, restricting their rights and enacting harsh penalties for LGBTQ+ people as well as penalizing their allies.

The International Center for Research on Women is driven by our vision of equity and the right to human dignity for every person, inclusive of all gender identities and sexualities. We strongly condemn AHB23 and firmly stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ population and activists in Uganda.
