Nitya Baranwal (she/her) is a Field Facilitator for the GEMS Project, based in Godda, Jharkhand (India). Prior to joining ICRW, Nitya began her professional journey as a Pre-Primary School Teacher in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, where she focused on promoting holistic learning and creating safe, inclusive classroom environments for young children. Her commitment to grassroots change inspired her to work as a Research Fellow with the Piramal Foundation in Gumla, Jharkhand. In this role, she strengthened health systems for tribal and marginalized communities, aligning with NITI Aayog indicators, particularly in maternal health and adolescent engagement.
She also contributed to the Government of India’s 100 Days TB Elimination Program, leading awareness campaigns, focus group discussions, community sensitization, and frontline worker supervision. To advance women’s empowerment, Nitya initiated a literacy drive that enabled over 120 women to identify and use their Aadhaar numbers to improve access to essential services.
