As feminist foreign policies (FFPs) rise in popularity, many may be wondering: what makes them feminist, and how might we measure that? In this event, speakers will introduce the Feminist Foreign Policy Index, a quantitative framework informed by civil society to assess feminist commitments to foreign policy. Among its goals, the Index is an innovative resource for advancing government accountability. Particularly when access to policymakers has been limited by COVID-19, the Index relies on data, technology, and collective input to provide a cross-country comparison of ambitious policy standards. This event will explore key findings and motivate advocacy on FFP globally.
The Feminist Foreign Policy Index is envisioned as a tool for systems change. By introducing a broader conceptualization of feminist commitments in foreign policy, we hope to offer a template for cross-country comparison of regional and global peers, and provide an overview of thematic areas of strength and improvement that countries can prioritize when developing or revising their FFP framework. We hope that this event will spark conversations that can incentivize change and strengthen monitoring and accountability for feminist commitments in foreign policy.
