Tapas Samaddar (he/him) is currently working as a Field Facilitator with the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) Asia, where he works closely with Village Champions to promote gender equality, challenge harmful social norms, and strengthen local leadership in rural communities. He brings over 8 years of experience in community development, with the last 2 years focused specifically on gender equality, engaging men, women, youth, and community leaders in dialogue and action.
Before joining ICRW as staff, Tapas worked with the organization as a Consultant Field Facilitator, contributing to field implementation, community mobilization, and monitoring of gender-transformative interventions. Prior to this, he served as a Field Coordinator in the Tejaswini project, which aimed to empower young women and adolescent girls (14-24 years) through economic, social, and life skills training. In this role, he worked closely with government officials, PRI members, and community groups, facilitating meetings at block, cluster, and club levels, organizing awareness rallies and campaigns, and conducting home visits to encourage participation in the program.
Earlier in his career, Tapas worked for over 4 years with Sidhu Kanhu Alpashankhyak Vikas Samiti (NGO) as a Coordinator/Supervisor, managing multiple community-based projects. His work included the Maithon Power Limited CSR-led Green Belt Project, which promoted environmental conservation through tree plantation drives and awareness activities, as well as women’s income generation programs that linked locally produced goods to markets. These roles strengthened his expertise in stakeholder coordination, grassroots mobilization, and livelihood promotion.
