Gender equitable leadership, a key principle of rights-based gender justice for women in the workforce, arises from equitable career structures and opportunities. Globally, health sectors are characterized by an under-representation of women in leadership positions. Based on research conducted with 19 organizations and 55 study participants in India, this report on Women in Leadership seeks to expand the evidence base for advancing women’s leadership and influence in health sector organizations in India. The report examines the career pipeline for women in the health sector, assesses the unique enablers and barriers women face in accessing equal opportunities for career growth, and provides recommendations to support women in participating equally in the health workforce and advancing to leadership positions.
The research reported in this publication has been conducted as part of a study undertaken by ICRW, Women in Leadership in Health Sector, and supported by GH5050. The facts and information in this report may be reproduced/quoted/cited only for non-commercial use and with appropriate attribution.
