View on Gender: “ATMs” for Reporting Sexual Assaults

Nandita Bhatla speaks with SciDev.net on new ATMs, designed to give women in India a safe space to report crimes, including violence against women. Bhatla notes that while one positive aspect of the installment of these ATMs is that police are coming up with creative ways to help women report violence, the ATMs will not fix a larger, underlying problem, which is that many women fear police will be dismissive of their complaint and therefor don’t feel comfortable reporting them.
