Grassroots paralegals can be an important ally in ensuring that women exercise their right to property and assets. ICRW and Uganda Land Alliance seek to strengthen paralegals’ role in that effort by developing and testing a training curriculum and field tools for them on gender and property rights. After implementing a pilot program, ICRW and the Centre for Basic Research will assess the impact of the training program on paralegals’ ability to help women understand and exercise their property rights.
ICRW also aims to build the ability of grassroots paralegal institutions to monitor how they approach cases in their communities. Lessons learned from these efforts will increase the effectiveness of training programs as ICRW and local partners promote grassroots paralegal efforts throughout Africa.
