Tanya Khokhar is a senior policy expert serving as ICRW’s day-to-day lead for engagement and policy advocacy with the Beijing +25/Generation Equality Forum — supporting ambitious, evidence-based commitments by participating governments to advance the Beijing+25 agenda for gender equality.
Prior to this role, Tanya spent seven years in philanthropy at Ford Foundation as a Grants Officer in the Gender Racial and Ethnic Justice-International team. From strategy design to grant making, her portfolio focused on supporting feminist organizations and movements to advance sexual reproductive health and rights, ending gender-based violence, defending the rights of refugees and strengthening the women’s rights ecosystem. Before joining the Foundation in 2013, she worked in Chiapas, Mexico to research and design a community-based education initiative with indigenous leaders in collaboration with the Mexican Secretariat of Public Education (SEP). She has also worked at United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in New York City for the Millennium Campaign, and at Aahung in Pakistan to advance sexual reproductive health and rights for women and girls. Tanya was born and raised in Karachi and has been living in New York City since 2006.
