Subhalakshmi Nandi

Deputy Regional Director, ICRW Asia Office

As the Director of Policy  Analysis  for ICRW Asia, Subhalakshmi steers the research and programs agenda of the ICRW Asia Regional Office, coordinating with a dynamic team of social science researchers, gender studies and public policy specialists. She has broad experience in connecting research and action with feminist activism, economic with social policy and grassroots action with policy.

She has published internationally in journals and books, on issues of unpaid work, rights of women farmers, social protection, women’s education and engendering microfinance. She is a member of the Indian Association for Women’s Studies (IAWS), Indian Society for Labour Economics (ISLE) and the Association for Women in Development (AWID).

Subhalakshmi has been a researcher, trainer, policy advocate and program manager. Her expertise include macroeconomic analysis, engendering of social protection, the informal economy, unpaid work, gender-based violence and securing rights of women farmers. Prior to her work at ICRW and with a career in feminist development spanning more than 15 years in the Asia-Pacific region, Subhalakshmi has worked with UN Women and women’s rights organizations on diverse issues of gender equality and rights. She also had a brief stint at the UN headquarters in New York as Policy Specialist at the UN Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel on Women’s Economic Empowerment (UNHLP-WEE).

Education: Subhalakshmi holds a Masters’ degree in Social Work from the Delhi School of Social Work, and an undergraduate degree in Psychology (Honours) from Lady Shri Ram College (University of Delhi)
