ICRW joins so many others in acknowledging that the conviction of Derek Chauvin for the brutal murder of George Floyd represents a critical step in advancing accountability among law enforcement and the criminal justice system for the ongoing unjust treatment of Black and brown Americans. We also acknowledge and support the work that remains to be done to dismantle systemic racism in America and around the world.


Joe Shaffner

Senior Communications Manager

Joe Shaffner is Senior Communications Manager at the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW). He oversees ICRW’s strategic communications efforts, helping to raise awareness about ICRW’s key research, advocacy, program and advisory services. Joe has over 15 years of experience in communications, marketing, client relations, partnership development, business development, project & process management and team leadership.

He is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, where he worked on health, community economic development and education. Joe is also the former marketing manager for an international development consulting firm. He has broad-based experience working with agencies, corporations, nonprofits, small businesses and individuals aiming to grow capacity and develop capabilities.

Education: Master of Professional Studies, Public Relations & Corporate Communications from Georgetown University and Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
