FELLOWSHIPS AT ICRW

Fertility and Empowerment Post-Doctoral Fellow

ICRW is offering a post-doctoral fellowship for a social scientist with gender and population expertise at its Washington, D.C. office. This fellowship is geared toward early career Ph.D. professionals who would like to conduct research within an action research organization and network with a wide range of experts in gender and population in resource-poor settings.

The fellow will make substantive contributions to a research project examining the impact of fertility decline on women's empowerment in developing countries. The fellow will work directly with the vice president for research, innovation, and impact and other D.C.-based research staff, as well as with experts in gender and population from other organizations and academic institutions.  Depending on interest and expertise, the fellow may also participate in other gender and population relevant projects at ICRW, including work on adolescents and son preference.

Primary DutieS

  • Collaborate with colleagues on country case studies (data gathering, synthesis and writing) that will examine the impact of fertility declines and family planning access on women’s empowerment and gender relations.
  • Co-author at least one chapter of an edited volume from the project on fertility and empowerment.
  • Help to develop a network of gender and population experts.
  • Participate in fertility and empowerment working group meetings.
  • Participate in other program and policy relevant research on gender and population issues at ICRW, including but not necessarily limited to issues such as adolescents and son preference (dependent on the fellow’s substantive and technical skills, interests and experience, and emerging needs for other projects).
  • Participate in proposal writing (dependent on skills, interest, and opportunity).

The fellow may also have the opportunity to produce research papers—sole-authored or in collaboration with members of the network or ICRW staff—on topics related to the projects he/she works on.
