2008 Gala: Champions for Change
ICRW saluted Champions for Change with its awards gala on March 5. Nearly 400 guests attended the fundraiser to support ICRW in its mission to improve the lives of women and girls and advance gender equality. Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan made a brief appearance at the opening reception to greet dignitaries, nonprofit leaders, government officials and friends who gathered at Union Station in Washington, D.C. The evening’s program was hosted by NPR’s Legal Correspondent Nina Totenberg and included a performance by Tony-award winning actor, playwright and poet Sarah Jones and a live auction featuring former Washington Post columnist Bob Levey.
The gala honored two organizations with Investing in Women awards. Salud y Género of Mexico was awarded for its innovation in engaging men and boys to improve women’s health. Standard Chartered Bank based in London received the award for vision in recognition of its global commitments to community investment, microfinance initiatives and environmental action.
