LEGISLATION
ICRW supports H.R. 3175, and S. 1998, pending legislation in both houses of Congress, to help reduce child marriage. Child marriage undermines U.S. development efforts in many parts of the developing world because it often results in girls leaving school and girls being at higher risk of maternal mortality, infant mortality and domestic violence. By combating child marriage, we will increase the effectiveness of U.S humanitarian assistance as well as give millions of girls a better chance to stay in school and live out their own dreams.
